ISDN, or Integrated Services Digital Network, is a digital telecommunications technology that allows for the transmission of voice, data, and video over a single line. It was developed in the 1980s as a replacement for analog telephone lines, and it offers a number of advantages over analog, including faster data transfer rates, better voice quality, and the ability to support multiple devices on a single line.
ISDN was once the standard for business telecommunications, but it has since been largely replaced by newer technologies such as VoIP and broadband. However, ISDN is still used in some areas, particularly in rural areas where broadband access is not available. ISDN is also still used for some specialized applications, such as video conferencing and telemedicine.
