With the release of iOS 13, Apple introduced a new feature called “push” for the Mail app when used with Gmail accounts. This feature allows users to receive near-instant notifications for new emails, even when the Mail app is closed or in the background.
Prior to iOS 13, Gmail users on iOS devices had to rely on the Mail app’s “fetch” system to check for new emails. This system would periodically check for new mail at set intervals, such as every 15 or 30 minutes. As a result, there could be a delay of several minutes before users were notified of new emails.
